ren no.1 purity cleansing balm

Cleansing balms seem to be what everyone is using now. In particular the Emma Hardie balm is making every blogger explode with glee. At a rather pricey €42.50 from feelunique.com, I decided to test out a more affordable cleansing balm, the Ren No.1 Purity Cleansing Balm and see of it lives up to the cleansing balm hype.

The balm comes in a 100ml tube that I purchased from the Ren website for £23, which is around €27. What’s great about buying from the Ren website is that you get two free samples and also you can pick a product you repeatedly buy and they will give you 10% off of your  future purchases of that product. (Although I spotted it in Marks and Spencer for a little cheaper.) It has a subtle rose scent and has no nasty parabens, sulfates etc. which is always a bonus. Ren claim it calms, purifies and protects the skin from the environment while removing all make up even waterproof mascara.

The balm works by warming it up in the palm of your hands and massaging onto your face.  I removed it with warm water and a flannel but a muslin cloth does come with the product. The balm itself does feel very luxurious and smooth on the skin. It smells lovely and is easy to apply. Only a small amount is need to cover your face and I enjoyed giving my face a little massage when it is being rubbed in. It cleans away facial make-up very easily and doesn't leave any residue on the face after it has been wiped away.

There are some drawbacks though. The packaging for the product is not my favourite. The opening cap is a little flimsy and its quite hard to  squeeze the product out.  I believe there is an alternative jar packaging which I might try instead if I was repurchasing. It is claimed that it also removes waterproof mascara and I don’t wear waterproof mascara but I found I had to give a good scrub to remove my normal mascara. So I wouldn’t advise using this alone for removing waterproof products or heavier eye make-up.

How does it rank overall as a cleanser? Pretty high I say! My face after felt clarified, cleaned and refreshed after using it. Compared to the cream cleansers I’ve usually reached for in the past, this is such a nice relaxing product, I can see it remaining in my skincare routine for quite a while.
