Review: Boots Botanics Soothing Eye Make Up Remover

Thursday, 10 April 2014

Sometimes you take a chance on a drugstore product and it is amazing, other times it's a bit of a dud. Sadly, this review is the latter as I took a chance on the Boots Botanics Soothing Eye Make Up Remover and was rather unimpressed with the outcome.

Now this product is pretty affordable at just over €6 and I like the packaging. It is a simply pink and white plastic bottle with 150ml of product. The remover is a water and oil mixture that is shaken up before use and removes make up by simply placing on a cotton pad and gently rubbing over the eyes. It claims to remove water proof make up, and the hibiscus helps sooth the eye area and condition lashes while brightening the skin.

Now, all of that sounds lovely. Who wouldn't want a soothing, brightening make up remover? And the formula does remove make up quite well. However, and it is a big however, this stuff is so oily. After removing my make up, it left possibly the worst oily residue I've ever experienced. It felt really uncomfortable. For a make up remover, it also committed perhaps the worst sin, it stung my eyes. Two big no-no's.

The Boots Botanics Soothing Eye Make Up Remover wasn't for me and did not entice me to switch from my high end removers. The 3 for 2 in Boots makes a girl buy things on a whim and this whim was quite the disappointment. Has anyone had any experience with this make up remover? or do you have a suggestion for a affordable alternative? Please let me know.
