Too Late to the Game?: The Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette

Tuesday, 10 June 2014

Sooo... like every other beauty lover, I eagerly awaited the launch of the Naked 3 palette. When it came out, I read all the blog posts, saw all the press pics, pinned images on Pinterest and even swatched it in person but for some reason I just never bothered to get it. That is until now. Months later, after all the hype has faded away, I received it as a present and I thought I would do a review of a product that no one really cares about any more!!!

Now despite my sarcasm, I am actually exited about this palette. I have Naked 1 and 2 and both have serviced me well. Coveted by many as some of the greatest neutral palettes available, I think they certainly lived up to the hype. Price at €44, like it predecessors the palette has 12 shades that are all pretty neutral. It also comes in a tin case which although I think is rather unattractive is great for travelling and generally pretty sturdy. The palette also comes with a double ended brush and 4 sample primer potions in different shades.

The tone of this palette is quite pink, which I was skeptical of but all of the shades are lovely, really wearable and come in a mix of mattes, shimmers and full-on glitters. The matte shades and the shimmery shades are my favourite. They are lovely, easy to blend and work great for day to day looks or a more evening look. My personal favourites are Burnout, a light pink with a subtle shimmer and Nooner, a pinky, brown matte that looks great in the crease.

Overall I did like the palette but it isn't without its faults. I found some of the shades such as Dust, a pale pink, just too glittery for my liking. Another issue is fall down. After applying some of the shades even with a primer I had eye shadow and glittery all down my face which just irritated the heck out of me.

It's obvious to see why so many women go crazy when Urban Decay palettes are released. They are lovely, wearable colours that are reasonably priced and this palette is no exception. I'm really happy I got it and love using it but if someone asked me what neutral eye palette should they buy, I don't think it would be this one.

What do you guys think of this palette? Greatest of all time? Over hyped? Or like me just somewhere in the middle?
