Maybelline Color Drama Velvet Lip Pencil

I love it when a random purchase turns out to be surprisingly great and this is one of those times. Maybelline released a new range of lip pencils, that obviously take a cue from Nars, and when I spotted them I couldn't resist giving them a try and luckily they are lovely.

The new Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils are a product that I hadn't heard much about around the beauty blogs so buying them was a bit of a blind experiment. What drew me in was the packaging which is a lovely simple pencil that I think looks pretty stylish. The shade range was also quite impressive. I went for the bright red hue called Red Essential but there were also some gorgeous nudes, pinks and berries that looked equally appealing.

The formula was not what I was expecting as I find this type of product can be drying on the lips. Yet it wasn't. The formula really creamy and not drying at all, although I did put lip balm underneath. The color when applying also translated really well. It was pigment and opaque with a few swipes. I also loved that it was easy to line my lips and get a precise edge while also being smooth and creamy enough to fill in my lips. As for lasting power, it was decent. Although, it was prone to smudging as it doesn't set, a little top up every few hours did the trick to keep it lovely and bright.

These pencils are an unexpected joy. I was really pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed wearing it. If you are looking for a more affordable alternative for the Nars pencils, these are an amazing option. At less than €7, they are a great buy for someone looking for a high quality lip product without the high-end price.
