Buys From The Balm

Thursday, 2 October 2014

Excitement levels are so high right now as I recently discovered that a local pharmacy sellsThe Balm. It's a brand I've been wanting to try for a while so I bought two items from the collection. They are the much talked about Cindy-Lou Manizer and the Nude-tude Eyeshadow Palette and neither disappoints.

I bought The Cindy-Lou Manizer but it wasn't exactly what I wanted. I actually was looking for the Mary-Lou Manizer but sadly they didn't have it so I went for the Cindy. This gorgeous highlighter/eyeshadow hybrid is shimmery skin in a pot. The minute I put it on my cheeks I was enamoured by how amazing it looked and at how it wasn't too glittery but also added a bit of colour with its peachy tone. The price was also really great. It was certainly verging on high end territory at just over €18 but the quality is so great I'd happily pay that.

My only little issue is the packaging. It's sturdy and has a great mirror but the whole pin-up girl look just isn't my cup of tea. I know many people love that look but for me its a little over done and dare I say, a little tacky. I'm just a sucker for more of a simple black packaging but, the product is so great, I can over look this slight niggle.

On to the Nude-tude Eyeshadow Palette which I was equally impressed with. It has great mix of shimmers and mattes that go from wearable taupes and browns to slightly more daunting pinkish, plum shades. I was so impressed with the pigmentation with these as a slight dab of the brush delivers the most opaque colour across the lids. They also have great staying power as I wore some of the shades all day they were still there when I got home in the evening. My personal favourite shade is the coppery brown hue called Seductive which when used all over the lid makes the perfect brown smoky eye. This palette was only €31 as well which is amazing value for these 12 shades.

Similarly to the highlighter, the packaging isn't really my style but I can easily overlook that too. Plus there is a really rather rubbish brush with this palette which I will never use but the eye shadows are some of the best out there so who cares.

Overall, The Balm has made quite an impression on me. I'll definitely be looking further into this brand and seeing what other treasures they offer. Any suggestions for other products from this lovely beauty brand?
