Second Chance Beauty

Friday, 29 May 2015

Today I'm doing kind of a disappointing product's posts but with a twist! I'm talking about products I initially tried, disliked and relegated to the back of my makeup drawer. I've now fished them out and instead of giving them away or binning them, I've decided to give them a second chance and see if I was too hasty in my rejection of them. It's second chance beauty time and here is what I thought.

Rimmel London Apocalips Lip Lacquer
I can't remember if I blogged about the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers, or even had a blog when these came out but yesh, did I not like them. After trying them again, I have to say I may dislike them even more!

In theory, there is nothing wrong with these liquid lipsticks. They give off amazing colour, shine and look lovely on the lips. But they don't set. And as a person who lives in fear of having lipstick all over my face, these just aren't something I enjoy wearing. I find them messy, they get on my teeth and generally just make me feel self-conscious. I find myself perpetually asking "Do I have lipstick on my face?" And who wants that?

The Verdict: Yup, not for me

Bourjois Délice de Poudre Bronzing Powder & Highlighter
Otherwise known as the chocolate bronzer, I've heard so much talk about this one. However, I always held off on buying it. What finally spurred me into getting it was that they released the bronzer/highlighter duo and we all know I love a good highlight. Sadly, first time round I wasn't blown away. And after trying it again, I think it's actually a perfectly fine product especially if you are a makeup noob who wants an affordable duo. I don't think it's revolutionary and I do have better products in my collection but it's nice.

The Verdict: I like it!

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette
I bought this a year ago and it looks virtually untouched because it is! I think I tried it once or twice but I just really disliked the pink hues. I didn't know how to wear them and felt like they didn't really match my skintone. Plus the packaging is so unattractive. It's in the back of my photo for a reason!

But for the last few days I been wearing it and trying really hard to make it work for me and I've gone from a thumbs down to a meh. So that's an improvement! I'm still not smitten with this palette. A lot of the shades still don't look good on me, but I've found three or four that I actually like.

The Verdict: No longer hate but still not my favourite

Rimmel - Kate Lasting Finish Lipstick in 07
Remember when everyone was going crazy for this little guy? It's obvious to see why. The colour is gorgeous and it's super affordable. What could go wrong? I thought this was so drying and sadly, I still feel the same. Even if I prep my lips I still can't wear this for more than an hour without my lips cracking like crazy. Sadly, it's another no go.

The Verdict: Gorgeous! But sooooo drying.

Bourjois Happy Light Foundation
This one sounded like a real winner for me. Light coverage? Check. Affordable? Check. Dewy? Check. Yet when I applied it something got lost in translation. And this time around I feel the same. There is just something off about the colour of this one that doesn't work for me. I much prefer their CC cream as it's a better colour match.

The Verdict: If it had a better colour range maybe but unfortunately not for me

What do you think of these products? Is there a product you keep trying but it won't work? Let me know!
