Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Bella

Thursday, 25 June 2015

When I saw Stila's new summer collection, I thought "YASS!". It all looked beautiful and I had to pick up a few things. What I was most excited about was the Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in the new shade Bella. However I committed a rookie mistake, I bought this without checking any reviews and after retroactively reading some, let's just say people's reactions were mixed. And after testing it out myself, my thoughts are a little mixed too.

As I'm sitting down to write this review I'm still not clear on my opinions about this lipstick. I was fully expecting to love it as it has all of the trademarks of a product I'd adore - creamy, matte, moisturising, bold, long lasting. Doesn't that all sound amazing? But... I don't know. To sort my thoughts out let's just do a good ol' pro and con list and hopefully I'll get some clarity.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Bella

For the pros, there are a few things I loved about this lipstick. First, it's a bit of a looker. As you can see it's beyond gorgeous. The gold packaging is stunning and I'm completely smitten with it. And the colour, Bella is the most lovely pink. It's bright, not too cool and is my perfect shade of pink.

The initial application is really promising too. The formula is very opaque and the doe foot applicator makes it very easy to apply. It does take about a minute to set but once it does, it's very matte and feels weightless. It also smells of delicious vanilla icing. Sounds like I'm on to a winner, right?

Unfortunately, it was downhill from here. The formula is sold as long lasting but I found it wasn't. It went patchy after a couple of hours and completely came off after eating and drinking. All that was left was the dreaded line around the edges of my lips. I wouldn't mind that so much but reapplying seems to make things worse. It doesn't layer well and separates and cracks on my lips. It looked shockingly bad. To make it work I would have to remove the previous layer and apply it all over again and who wants that?

Stila is one of my most loved brands and I had high expectations for this. It looks so beautiful and with the high-end price tag, I was anticipating big things and it just didn't deliver. It's silly to say but I'm genuinely a little sad about this. Bring on the internet hugs people!
