The Body Shop Honey Bronze Face Gel review

Fake tanning and I have never seen eye to eye. I'm a sporadic user and amateur at best. The one aspect I've struggled with most is facial tanning. I'm not a fan of just using a darker foundation as it never looks quite right and reapplying tan to my face every night after cleansing is no fun either. I know a few brands do facial tanners, but only recently have I decided to take a leap of faith and buy one from The Body Shop.

Initially, I hummed and hawed about whether to get the Clarins version or The Body Shop's Honey Bronze Bronzing Gel. I decided to go with The Body Shop as I like the Honey Bronze range already and I also assumed it would be more affordable. In actuality, they are about the same price with each being twenty-something euro (Btw, it's only £12 in the UK. The Body Shop is hella expensive here!). But The Body Shop are cruelty-free so I guess that's a big bonus.

When I first tried this I was a bit confused. It is recommended that you apply with your fingers, so I did that. However, this didn't work so well. The product seemed to sink into my fingers instead of going on my face and I had to use quite a lot to build up any sort of colour. So I ditched that method and turned to a brush. This didn't go that smoothly either as I ended up using way too much and looking a little crazy. Third time's the charm though. I finally got the balance right as I applied a small pea sized amount on my brush, blended it in and I finally got a nice, subtle bronze.

I did like the colour it gave overall. It was nice and didn't look too out of place on my face. I do think some might have a problem with it though. It is definitely on the more red-ish side of tan as opposed to an olive tone, which won't suit all. Colour aside, I think my favourite aspect is how weightless it feels. It blends in easily and doesn't feel like I'm applying a thick layer of makeup, which is always a plus for me.

Although we had a rocky start, I like this bronzer. It's not a must-have or a holy grail by any means, but it's nice, easy to use once you get the hang of it and does the job. It's for sure more of a like, not love situation and right now that's fine with me.
