That Shimmer Shimmer

Tuesday, 15 December 2015

Look no further ladies and gentlemen, I may have found the perfect Christmas party eyeshadow. It ticks all of the festive makeup boxes. It's gold. It's shimmery. It's not at all subtle. And it's gorgeous. So grab a cup of coffee and let's talk about this rather fetching Catrice Liquid Metal Eyeshadow.

From the get-go, I had a suspicion that I would really like this eyeshadow and there are a couple of reasons why. First is that I have been loving Catrice recently and I know that these are one of their most well-reviewed products. And second is that these shadows have a striking resemblance to the L'Oreal Color Riche Mono Eyeshadow. I loved those shadows. I think I bought around five and finding a cruelty-free option to those would be amazing.

So what's there to say about this shadow? Well, I have the shade 030 We Are The Champagnes and it's gorgeous. The name is a little misleading as it is more of a gold than a champagne, but it's beautiful none the less. It's tremendously sparkly and really packs a shimmer punch on the lids. It's basically a perfect festive season colour.

Not only is the colour a beaut, but the texture is dreamy too. It's silky smooth and almost cream-like to touch. Because of this, it's very easy to apply and blend. This shadow can also be used a number of different ways too. If subtle is your aim, then you can get a light wash of shimmery colour across the lids. But you can also pack it on and really build it up for a real pop of colour. Heck, you could also go wild and use it wet for a serious glitter look and I'm sure it would look amazing.

I also want to say kudos to Catrice for the packaging. That was my one gripe with the L'Oreal version. The packaging was the WORST. Too many tears were shed over a shattered shadow at the bottom of my makeup bag. But with the Catrice, the packaging is sturdy, the shadow is really compact (and beautifully embossed) and much less susceptible to breakage.

As for the downsides, I'd say the shade range. It's just a little... off. It's quite limited and none of them are amazing. In fact, even though I really like the shade I bought, it's not really one I'd wear all year round. It's much more of a Christmas shade for me. There is a coppery bronze that I probably will try, but other than that they are a little underwhelming.

In a nutshell, I think these are a beautiful formula, they such a great price and look amazing on the lids. My hope is that they'll widen the shade range and add some more attractive hues. But overall, if you are looking for a gorgeous festive shadow, this is your gal.
