The Everyday Base For My Face

Sunday, 20 December 2015

It seems like the done thing in regards to bases is go light in the Summer and heavier in the winter, but that ain't me. I've really come to detest the feeling of wearing a heavy, full coverage foundation all day long. Instead, I prefer to stick to a sheer and breezy tinted moisturiser all year round and use a heck of a lot of concealer in lieu of the heavy coverage. And today I am going to talk about that light base and all of the products I use to achieve a light, yet well concealed face.

The first step in my base routine is the Soap & Glory Sunshield Superfluid SPF 50. This may seem like a strange one, especially considering we haven't seen the sun for about two months in this part of the world. But I am someone who is quite bad at wearing SPF no matter the weather and I've decided to attempt to make it part of my base routine regardless of the time of year. So far so good with this stuff as you can pop it on and easily apply makeup on top of it, meaning it's a pretty simple and carefree addition to my routine.

Then on to the tinted moisturiser. My favourite base right now is the BareMinerlals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream. I've loved this since I got it during the Summer and pretty much haven't stopped wearing it since. The shade range is great, it is super light and comfortable and it looks so nice on the skin. Definitely one of my top products of the year.

Next step is the most important part of my base routine - concealers. I'm only mentioning two here, but I must admit on a given day I could use three or four... or five concealers. I don't have bad skin, but I do have hereditary dark circles so to look healthy I do have to pile them on. My favourite full coverage standby is the Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer. This stuff packs a real coverage punch, but, unfortunately, isn't cruelty-free so I'm savouring every bit of it. And on top of that to make it slightly more creamy and blendable, I'm using the Catrice Liquid Camouflage, which is just a top notch budget concealer.

And finally is powder. I really enjoy the Soap & Glory One Heck Of A Blot Powder for setting my concealer. It is pretty much undetectable on my skin but holds firm for a good chunk of the day. I find it to be a thoroughly reliable powder that I can throw in my bag and  use for touch-ups throughout the day too.

What is your go-to base products right now? And what do you think of the ones I am using? Let me know.
